- Accurately verify patient insurance eligibility, benefits, and coverage details, including deductibles, copayments, and out-of-pocket maximums.
- Accurately enter and update patient demographics and insurance information in EPM and Electronic Health Record (EHR).
- Communicate with patients via phone/email to explain insurance coverage.
- Collaborate with RCM Billing Supervisor and the Revenue Cycle Director regarding denied claims due to eligibility.
- Cross-functional collaboration with billing, patient access, and other Slocum teams to ensure a seamless patient experience and financial accuracy.
- Review appointment schedule for upcoming new and established patients.
- Review patients’ accounts and insurance profiles in EHR to guarantee accuracy.
- Leverage internal tools, third-party portals, and other solutions to accurately verify insurance coverage(s) for patients.
Requirements
Insurance verification experience.
- Ability to navigate numerous insurance portals to review benefit coverage details.
- Experience working with Electronic Health Records (EHR), preferably NextGen.
- Knowledge of medical coding (ICD-10, CPT), terminology, and insurance regulations
- Healthcare experience.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a remote team environment.
- Ability to multitask.
- Prioritize workload daily, weekly, and monthly.
- Have high accuracy and efficiency.
- High attention to detail.
- Communicate clearly, concisely, and courteously via phone, email, and in person.
Education and Experience
- Medical insurance knowledge, terminology, and background required.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Minimum 2 years of recent relevant experience required (4 years preferred).
- Previous experience as an Insurance Verification Specialist is desired.
- Previous experience working with Electronic Health Records.
Summary
The Insurance Verification Specialist is responsible for verifying insurance eligibility and coverage(s) for new and established Slocum patients. This includes primary, secondary, tertiary and other related medical insurance coverage. Additionally, proficiency in managing patient insurance data and ensuring compliance with industry regulations and contributing to improved patient care and operational efficiency are key components of this role.
