Description

  • Sort provider’s dictated notes from Sacred Heart Medical Center, McKenzie Willamette Hospital, Slocum Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC) and Day Surgery at RiverBend.
  • Ascertain and assigns appropriate ICD-10 code and modifier, if needed, to clinic procedures.
  • Ascertain and assigns appropriate CPT code and modifier and fees to surgical procedures.
  • Research and provide data for surgery estimates
  • Assist physicians with surgery assist fees and appropriate codes.
  • Work with physicians to resolve coding issues.
  • Work with Patient Registration to process new patients, new problem accounts on patients seen through the ER.
  • Work with Account Representatives to assign proper OHP codes through Line Finder.
  • Assist Surgery Scheduling and prior authorization with CPT and ICD codes.
  • Assist Transcription in coding STAT dictation ASAP.
  • Verify all E/M charges are accurate and all services are documented and billed out correctly.
  • Change any codes to be more specific if needed.
  • Communicate back to the physicians of any corrections or continued issues.
  • Participate in educational activities.

Requirements

  • One year certificate from college or technical school; or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Certified Preferred.  Prior medical office experience, medical terminology, knowledge of anatomy and physiology required.  Must be highly organized, able to work independently as well as in a team and have the ability to work under stress.Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills.Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Summary

Provides coding support for Slocum physicians, staff and patients by reviewing operative reports and patient medical records to assign diagnosis codes and procedure codes.
