Elbow Bursitis: Causes, Symptoms, and Treatment
Elbow bursitis is a condition characterized by inflammation and swelling of the bursa, a small fluid-filled sac located at the tip of the elbow. This condition commonly occurs as a result of repetitive movements or excessive pressure on the elbow joint. Elbow bursitis can cause pain, tenderness, and limited range of motion in the affected arm.
Common causes of elbow bursitis include leaning on the elbow for extended periods, repetitive motions such as throwing or lifting heavy objects, and direct trauma or injury to the elbow. People who participate in activities that involve frequent elbow movements, such as athletes or construction workers, are at a higher risk of developing this condition.
Treatment for elbow bursitis usually involves a combination of rest, ice therapy, compression, and elevation (RICE) to reduce inflammation and pain. In some cases, a doctor may recommend medication or aspiration of fluid from the bursa to alleviate symptoms. Physical therapy exercises may also be prescribed to improve flexibility and strength in the affected arm.
Early diagnosis and proper management can help individuals recover from elbow bursitis and prevent further complications.
