Hip Bruise: Causes, Symptoms, and Treatment
A hip bruise, also called a hip contusion, occurs when the soft tissues around the hip joint are injured, usually from a direct blow or trauma. This can lead to pain, swelling, and tenderness. The impact may cause small blood vessels to rupture, resulting in discoloration and the typical appearance of a bruise.
Hip bruises can range from mild discomfort to more significant pain and limited mobility. Treatment often involves rest, ice, compression, and elevation (RICE), along with over-the-counter pain medications. In more severe cases, physical therapy may be recommended to restore strength and flexibility.
It is important to seek medical attention if symptoms worsen or do not improve, as imaging may be needed to rule out fractures or other injuries.
