Musculoskeletal Deformities

Causes, Treatment, and Support for Musculoskeletal Deformities

Musculoskeletal deformities, also called acquired deformities, are changes in the bones, muscles, or joints that develop over time due to trauma, injury, disease, or other factors. Unlike congenital deformities, which are present at birth, these conditions occur later in life.

They can affect alignment, structure, and function of the musculoskeletal system, leading to pain, restricted movement, and reduced quality of life. Examples include limb length differences, joint contractures, scoliosis, and some joint dislocations.

Treatment usually involves a multidisciplinary approach, including orthopedic care, physical therapy, and rehabilitation. Early diagnosis and intervention are important to prevent complications and improve mobility.
