Pediatric Femur Fracture: Causes, Symptoms, and Treatment
A pediatric femur fracture is a break in the thigh bone in children or adolescents. The femur is the longest and strongest bone in the body, and a fracture can significantly affect a child’s mobility and well-being. These injuries may occur due to accidents, falls, sports injuries, or, in some cases, child abuse.
Symptoms include severe pain, swelling, bruising, deformity, and difficulty or inability to bear weight on the injured leg. Prompt medical evaluation is essential to diagnose the fracture and begin treatment.
Treatment may involve immobilization with a cast or traction to allow the bone to heal properly. In some cases, surgery is necessary to realign and stabilize the bone fragments. With appropriate treatment and rehabilitation, most children recover well and regain normal motion and function.
