Causes, Symptoms, and Treatment of Shoulder Subluxation
Subluxation of the shoulder joint is a condition characterized by the partial displacement of the shoulder joint. It occurs when the ball-shaped head of the upper arm bone (humerus) partially slips out of the shoulder socket (glenoid). This can result in pain, instability, and limited range of motion in the affected shoulder. Subluxation can be caused by traumatic injuries, repetitive overhead activities, or underlying conditions that weaken the ligaments and tendons supporting the joint. Common symptoms include a feeling of the shoulder slipping out of place, a popping or clicking sensation, and discomfort during movement or when lifting heavy objects. Prompt medical attention is necessary to prevent further damage and to develop an appropriate treatment plan, which may include physical therapy, pain management, and in severe cases, surgical intervention. With proper care, individuals with subluxation of the shoulder joint can regain strength, stability, and function in the affected shoulder.
