Foot Ostectomy

Foot Ostectomy: Procedure, Recovery, and Care

Foot ostectomy is a surgical procedure that involves removing a portion of bone in the foot to relieve pain, correct deformity, or improve joint function. It may be performed on one of the metatarsal heads, the tarsal bones, or other areas depending on the condition being treated.

Common reasons for foot ostectomy include joint irritation, bone overgrowth, or abnormal connections between bones, such as a tarsal coalition. The procedure may involve partial or complete removal of a bony prominence.

Recovery typically includes limited weight-bearing, use of a surgical shoe or boot, and follow-up care to monitor healing. Physical therapy may be recommended to restore strength and mobility.
