Shoulder arthrotomy: Surgical treatment for joint damage
Shoulder arthrotomy is a surgical procedure that involves making an incision in the shoulder joint to access and treat any damage or injury to the joint. The procedure is performed under general anesthesia and the surgeon makes a small incision in the skin over the shoulder joint. The joint is then opened up and the surgeon can examine the damage or injury. Depending on the extent of the damage, the surgeon may repair the joint by removing damaged tissue, repairing torn ligaments or tendons, or replacing the damaged joint with an artificial joint. After the procedure, the incision is closed with sutures or staples and a dressing is applied to the area. Rehabilitation and physical therapy may be required to regain full range of motion and strength in the shoulder joint. Shoulder arthrotomy is typically performed as a last resort when other non-surgical treatments have failed to provide relief.
