Sports medicine specialist Denise R. Routhier, MD, was recently inducted into the Sports Hall of Fame of Albion College, her alma mater, for her outstanding achievements as a college athlete. While pursuing her undergraduate degree at Albion College in Albion, Michigan, Dr. Routhier excelled in track and field and swimming and diving.

Dr. Routhier earned four varsity letters in track and field and three varsity letters in swimming and diving. She gained Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA) all-conference track and field distinction as the triple jump champion two years in a row. The distance of her jump in 1999 broke Albion College’s school record, still placing her in third for the record today. Dr. Routhier also finished as the MIAA’s runner-up in the 400-meter hurdles in 1999, achieving a time that still stands as the school record. She also holds the school record with the 4×400 relay team from that year, and she was a member of one of the 4×100 relay teams that previously held the school record. Additionally, Dr. Routhier was a national qualifier in diving in 1997 and finished third in the league’s 1- and 3-meter competitions the following year.

Recognized for her accomplishments by her track and field team, she was named the Rookie of the Year in 1996 and MVP in 1998 and 1999, and she was elected team captain in 1999. Dr. Routhier was also her diving team’s MVP in 1996 and 1999, the Most Improved Diver in 1997, and the recipient of the Coaches Award in 1998.
