Funded by a donation from the physicians and surgeons at Slocum Center for Orthopedics Sports Medicine, this annual scholarship opportunity was available to Lane County high school seniors who are interested in pursuing health-related education and training.

The 2018 Slocum Scholarship recipients are among the most geographically diverse, with equal representation from schools outside of the Eugene/Springfield metropolitan area. “We are excited to be awarding scholarships to Creswell, Junction City and Cottage Grove high school students this year”, states Dr. Brick Lantz, orthopedic surgeon at Slocum Center for Orthopedics  Sports Medicine and president of the Slocum Foundation Board of Directors. We are also encouraged that five out of our six awardees have elected to stay in Oregon for college.

“The applicant pool this year was really impressive. We believe in the future success of this year and group of scholarship recipients”, says Dr. Jason Tavakolian, orthopedic surgeon at Slocum Center for Orthopedics Sports Medicine and longtime Slocum Foundation board member. During the application process, we become really invested in the students and their journeys toward careers in medicine, and we want to meet this year’s scholarship recipients who have already demonstrated so much resilience and grit.

This year a list of scholarship recipients can be seen on the Slocum Foundation’s website at www.slocumfoundation.org. Scholarship applications become available in January each year.
