Summary/Objective
Responsible for supporting a provider in clinic by running a clinical practice and following patient care from check-in to check-out.

- Checks to ensure that all patient rooms are cleaned, stocked and ready for physician/patient use and that clinical areas are cleared of any items potentially left by previous staff.
- Prepares charts and x-rays for patient visits 24 hours in advance of appointment
- Verifies that all needed information is available for the patient appointment, including referrals, lab reports, outside procedures, and x-rays, and gathers any missing items prior to appointment time.
- Determines if patients will need any x-rays at scheduled appointment, and places x-ray orders per physician protocols
- Collects and enters patient data including height, weight, blood pressure, allergies, pharmacy information, and short history of injury from patient per physician protocols
- Escorts patients to exam rooms and x-ray, having them dress down as needed
- Educates pre-op patients on items such as DVT, constipation, check in time, NPO, Consent, Post op instructions, CHG wipes/Hibiclens sponges, MRSA/MSSA results, medications to stop, post op medications, and DME needed
- Assists physician in procedures as needed including draping patient with covering, positioning instruments and equipment as directed, drawing up medication for injections, assisting with in-office sterile procedures, wound care and wound dressings, staple or suture removals, etc.
- Completes forms as needed for patient and provider
- Helps provider stay on schedule and see patients in a timely manner, and acts as a liaison between the patient, provider, and office staff.
- Completes medical equipment requisitions for provider signature.
- Schedules outside procedures using appropriate authorization and request protocols.
- Returns all calls to patients in a timely manner, and screens telephone calls for referral to physician.
- Manages task box appropriately
- Completes daily stocking of clinic rooms, closet, and any area patient may have access to.
- Answers phones, takes messages or transfers patients to appropriate departments when working on CC line or covering for triage.
- Ensures Meaningful Use measures are met for each patient
- Follows OSHA guidelines when handling blood or bodily fluids
- Attends required meetings and participates in committees as requested
- Strictly maintains patient confidentiality and follows HIPAA rules and regulations.

Competencies
- Knowledge of EMR/EHR systems.
- Understanding of orthopedic terminology and anatomy
- Computer keyboarding skills to enter patient information into the Nextgen systems.
- Demonstrates excellent customer service skills.
- Demonstrates excellent cultural competency skills with patients.
- Understanding of orthopedic and medical terminology.
- Understanding and compliance with HIPAA and confidentiality rules
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
- Must be highly organized, efficient, and able to make quick and accurate decisions.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Able to work well under pressure with diverse groups of patients, providers, and other healthcare professionals.
- Must have a good understanding of occupational exposure to bloodborne pathogens and use of PPE and mitigation measures

- Ability to help patients on/off exam table.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
- Able to lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.
- Able to walk, and use hands to finger, handle, or feel. Able to reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, and crouch.
- Must be able to use a computer/mouse/keyboard for extended periods of time

Education and Experience
- Must have current MA certification such as CMA, RMA, or CCMA
- Current knowledge of medical terminology and orthopedics
