Shoulder Joint Sprain: Causes, Symptoms, and Treatment
A sprain of the shoulder joint occurs when the ligaments that connect the bones in the shoulder are stretched or torn. This can happen due to a sudden impact or excessive force on the joint, such as during a fall or while playing sports. Common symptoms include pain, swelling, and limited range of motion in the shoulder. In some cases, there may also be bruising or tenderness around the affected area. Treatment typically involves rest, ice, compression, and elevation (RICE method), along with pain medications and physical therapy exercises to regain strength and flexibility. Severe sprains may require immobilization with a sling or brace, and in rare cases, surgery may be needed to repair the damaged ligaments. With proper care and rehabilitation, most individuals can recover fully from a shoulder joint sprain and regain normal function.
