Slocum Orthopedics will host a public Girder Signing event on Saturday, May 2, 2026, at the construction site of its new Ambulatory Surgery Center on Chad Drive, east of and adjacent to the Coca-Cola distributor and KEZI.

The event marks an important construction milestone for the new physician-owned orthopedic surgery center, which is being built to expand access to surgical care, reduce wait times, lower patient costs, and keep more care local for Lane County patients.

A New Facility Built for Orthopedic Care

Slocum’s new Ambulatory Surgery Center is planned as a 34,000-square-foot orthopedic surgery facility with eight fully equipped operating rooms and two additional operating rooms reserved for future expansion. The center is also designed to support outpatient procedures and 23-hour overnight stays, allowing Slocum to care for a broader range of orthopedic surgical needs in a dedicated outpatient setting.

Once complete, the new ASC will help Slocum double its surgical capacity, increase scheduling flexibility, and reduce pressure on regional operating room availability. The goal is straightforward: help patients receive timely, high-quality orthopedic care close to home.

“This is a meaningful moment for Slocum and for the community we serve,” said Todd Salnas, MBA, Chief Executive Officer of Slocum Orthopedics. “The new surgery center represents a long-term investment in access, capacity, and local physician-led care. Signing and placing this girder gives our team, partners, and community members a chance to become part of the building in a very literal way.”

Continuing Slocum’s Commitment to Eugene

Slocum has served Eugene and the surrounding region since 1939. Over the decades, the practice has grown from a local orthopedic clinic into a regional center for specialized orthopedic care, while maintaining its independence and physician-led model. Slocum’s history includes longstanding contributions to sports medicine, orthopedic innovation, and community-based care in the Willamette Valley. The new surgery center continues that legacy.

“This facility is being built specifically for orthopedic care,” said Dr. Brian Jewett, President and Orthopedic Surgeon at Slocum Orthopedics. “It gives us the space, technology, and flexibility to care for more patients in the right setting, while maintaining the clinical decision-making and local accountability that are central to who we are.”

Construction on the ASC began following the project’s September 2025 groundbreaking. The facility is expected to open in spring 2027.
