Slocum Hosts Perry Initiative Medical Student Outreach Program
Slocum Orthopedics and Slocum Research & Education Foundation were proud to host our first annual Perry Initiative Medical Student Outreach Program (MSOP). The event, led by Slocum’s female physicians Drs Heather Campion, Jenna Godfrey, Denise Routhier, Anna van der Horst, and Monica Zilkoski, welcomed first and second-year medical students from Western University Health Sciences of the Pacific Northwest to our Eugene facility.
The Perry Initiative MSOP is designed to introduce medical students to the field of orthopedic surgery through hands-on experience and mentorship. While the program emphasizes the advancement of women in orthopedic surgery, it welcomes participants of all gender identities.
During the event, students participated in two Sawbone surgical simulations, engaged in lively discussions, and connected with our experienced female surgeons. This program provided a unique opportunity for aspiring medical professionals to gain practical experience and insight into the field of orthopedics.
At Slocum, we’re committed to nurturing the next generation of orthopedic surgeons and promoting diversity in our field. Hosting the Perry Initiative is perfect for our mission to advance orthopedic care and education. We’re thrilled with the success of this event and look forward to continuing our support of programs that inspire and empower future medical professionals.
