New Hand & Wrist Specialist Joins the Slocum Team
Slocum Orthopedics is proud to welcome Julian Klosowiak, MD, PhD, to our Hand and Wrist team. Dr. Klosowiak brings a unique background that combines advanced training in plastic and reconstructive surgery with a deep commitment to restoring function for his patients.
A Path of Excellence
Dr. Klosowiak earned both his medical degree and PhD in Biophysics from Northwestern University in Chicago. He went on to complete his residency in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Northwestern and pursued specialized training through a Hand and Microvascular Surgery fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania.
In addition to his surgical training, Dr. Klosowiak served as a Medical Officer with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), where he worked on advancing the safety and effectiveness of medical treatments and devices. His broad academic and clinical experience allows him to approach patient care with both scientific insight and surgical precision.
“As a hand surgeon, I’m drawn to the interplay of form and function,” Dr. Klosowiak shares. “I enjoy working with all of the tissues of the hand, from skin to bone and everything in between. My goal is to restore movement, independence, and quality of life for each patient.”
His practice also includes microsurgery, flap reconstruction, and peripheral nerve surgery, making him a valuable resource for patients with both common and complex conditions.
Getting to Know Dr. Klosowiak
Dr. Klosowiak was born and raised in the Midwest, the oldest of four boys in a family of Polish immigrants. With a father who was an engineer and professor and a mother who was an architect, his childhood was full of travel, music, sports, and science experiments. That mix of creativity and curiosity shaped his path toward medicine.
Outside of work, Dr. Klosowiak enjoys being outdoors and staying active biking, hiking, sailing, or snowboarding. He has a love of travel, languages, and experiencing different cultures, and speaks Polish, French, and Spanish. Music has also been an important part of his life; he grew up playing the violin and continues to enjoy live music and concerts.
His professional journey has been driven by both discovery and compassion. After completing an accelerated BS/MD program and earning his PhD in Biophysics, he spent a year in France as a Fulbright Scholar before pursuing a career in plastic and reconstructive surgery. What ultimately drew him to hand surgery was the field’s focus on solving problems through principles rather than protocols, an approach that allows him to restore form and function in ways that truly impact his patients’ lives.
Joining the Slocum Community
From their first visit, Dr. Klosowiak and his wife felt that Slocum was a special place to practice medicine. “The collegiality and teamwork here are palpable,” he says. “I knew I would be joining colleagues who are not only excellent physicians but also approachable and supportive. I’m excited to contribute my skills and to learn from others on the team.”
Dr. Klosowiak is now accepting new patients here at Slocum Orthopedics. We are thrilled to welcome him to our team and look forward to the expertise and compassion he brings to the care of our patients.
